Inside Line Promotions – WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Aug. 5, 2020) – Tucker Boulton was a little dejected after picking pill No. 189 out of 200 last Saturday night at Riverside International Speedway.

The facility uses the same bag for all of its divisions, which is why Boulton’s number was so high. It buried the Tennessee driver in the back of his 305ci sprint car heat race and put the possibilities of a good night in jeopardy.

But Boulton wasn’t slowed down. He made the main event and passed a dozen cars to land a fifth-place finish during the Cody Burks Memorial. The outing was also good enough for Hard Charger honors.

“We’re extremely happy with (the night) and it’s not even our car we are in right now,” he said. “It feels really good to get in a car that is up to date, newer, and then go out there and drive it.”

A couple of weeks ago, Boulton destroyed his car in a crash with another competitor. John Howard offered a newer version of a J&J Chassis and Boulton has been fast since he climbed behind the wheel.

Boulton started last in his heat race Saturday night and got up to fifth. That put him at the front of the B Main, which he won. It slotted him 17th in the main event.

Boulton felt comfortable in the car and went to work on passing his fellow competitors. When the checkered flag flew on the 20-car field, the young upstart had his fourth top-five finish in eight races this season.

“We are learning a new setup for a new car and it’s been so much easier, especially with our help in the pits,” he said. “We are really, really happy with what we are going with right now.”

There is plenty of reason to be happy and it’s not just because of finishes of third and fifth in his last two starts. Boulton is comfortable with the performance of a newer car, which has led to a better feel and more confidence by the driver.

As for getting back in his own car, that should happen in the near future. According to Boulton, J&J Chassis will have his car done soon and it’s a mirror image of what he has been driving in his last two outings.

“I’m really excited to see what this new car is all about,” he said. “I’m a little nervous to put it on the track so close to the end of the year knowing we are going to have a 360 in the car next year. It will be my first new car and you don’t want to tear up your new car before a fresh, new, full season of racing. But we are going to go out there and get after it.”
